ABS-CBN issues statment following alleged cancellation of Darna in Indonesia
DARNA – The popular Kapamilya series, which also aired in Indonesia, was allegedly canceled after only two weeks.
Mars Ravelo’s Darna is a superhero series starring Jane De Leon, who plays the role of Darna/Narda Custodio: a young emergency medical technician. It is directed by Chito S. Roño, Avel Sunpongco and Benedict Mique.
It also stars with Joshua Garcia who portrays the character of Police Master Sgt. Brian Samonte Robles in the series. He’s a young police officer and EMT at the same time Narda’s love interest. While Janella Salvador plays the role of Valentina/Atty. Regina Vanguardia: a lawyer and vlogger who is cursed with venomous snakes for her hair. She’s Darna’s archenemy and also has romantic feelings for Brian.
The Kapamilya series revolves around the story of Narda who accepted her fate as Darna- the mighty protector of the potent stone from Planet Marte- when pieces of a green crystal scatter around the city and turn people into violent monsters.
Mars Ravelo’s Darna also airs on ANTV channel in Indonesia. However, it was reportedly removed from the Indonesian TV channel’s program lineup after two weeks of airing, allegedly due to low ratings and strict Islamic law.
ABS-CBN International Sales Division has immediately issued a statement via PEP.ph following the show’s alleged cancellation in Indonesia.
“Indonesia recently stopped analog TV broadcasting and shifted to digital TV broadcasting. ANTV determined that it would be better for viewers to enjoy ‘Darna’ once the transition to digital TV broadcasting has been completed. New airing details will be announced soon,” the network said.
