Here’s the statement of Renato Reyes on the death of Joma Sison
RENATO REYES – The Bayan secretary-general took to social media wherein he paid a tribute to late Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria “Joma” Sison.
Sison, a writer, activist, and terrorist, founded the leftist revolutionary organization CPP. It has waged an insurgency rebellion against the Philippine government for five (5) decades, aided by its armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA), and its political arm, the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).
The US designated him as a “person supporting terrorism” in August 2002. In September 2009, the European Union’s second highest court ruled that he should be delisted as a “person supporting terrorism” and overturned a decision by member governments to freeze his assets. Sison has been recognized in the Netherlands as a political refugee since 1988.
On December 17, CPP Chief Information Officer Marco Valbuena announced that Sison passed away after two weeks of confinement in the hospital. However, the cause of his death has yet to be disclosed.
Following the death of the CPP founder, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) secretary-general Renato Reyes took to the social networking site, Facebook wherein he posted a tribute in which he reflected about the contribution made by Sison to the country. Here’s the tribute of Reyes:
He even stated that while Sison’s detractors were celebrating, they would soon discover that what the communist leader started would only continue. Apparently, CPP did not disclose the cause of his death.
