ANNIE ORTIZ – The daughter of Overseas Filipino Workers offers her achievements to her parents working abroad.
She ranked 10 in the November 2022 Nursing Licensure Examination with a rating of 88.20%. The 23-year-old newly registered nurse from Antipolo City, graduated cum laude last June 2022 at the University of Santo Tomas.
In an interview with PEP.ph, she shared: “I only have one sibling and I’m the youngest. My parents are both OFWs.”
According to Annie Ortiz, she was then undecided about what course she was going to take in college. Among her options is to become an engineer or in a medical-field course.
One of the challenges that she faced during college is the feeling of being alone.
“Since my parents worked abroad, matagal ko po silang hindi nakakasama and minsan di ko rin sila makausap because I would be busy studying for my exams or quizzes.”
She noted that she couldn’t go home to Antipolo during weekends. As a result, she spent most of her time in her dorm, studying her lessons.
She’s thankful for her “great support system” including her dorm mates, classmates, friends, and family that help her cope with the challenges she had to deal with. She also did not forget to enjoy from time to time her college life by taking trips outside Manila along with her friends to unwind.
Annie Ortiz revealed that two months before the board exam, she doubted herself a lot. She also shared her experience while taking the exam and admitted that she find it difficult.
To make the story short, she passed the board exam and made it to the topnotchers list. She offered her achievement to her parents working abroad.
