Firecrackers are commonly used in the celebration of holidays or festivals, such as New Year’s Day. They are widely available throughout the Philippines and are being regulated through Republic Act 7183 and Executive Order 28.

According to Republic Act 7183, some fireworks, like Judas’ belt, are permitted, and the Director-General of the Philippine National Police will decide which fireworks and pyrotechnics are forbidden.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, firecrackers were prohibited in several parts of Metro Manila in December 2020 in order to prevent accidents and large-scale gatherings. Outside of Metro Manila, certain provinces and municipalities have likewise banned the use of firecrackers in order to ensure that the bare minimum of safety precautions are taken during the celebration of the new year.

Police Col. Redrico Maranan, head of the PNP Public Information Office, stated that the operation was the result of verified information that David Carpio had been offering for sale firecrackers that were illegal under current laws.

Carpio had been caught in Sta. Mesa in Manila on Tuesday, December 13. He was found to be in possession of 200 large 5Star King Kong firecrackers, P7,000 in cash, many phones, and identification cards.

Maranan claimed that two devices authorized by the court were used to record the procedure. According to him, the suspect is currently being prosecuted under Republic Act 7183, also known as An Act Regulating The Sale, Manufacture, Distribution, and Use of Firecrackers and Other Pyrotechnic Devices, in connection with Section 6 of RA 10175, also known as the “Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.”
