During the Senate hearing on Thursday, the senator expressed his frustration over the court violence and lack of sportsmanship that Amores exhibited at a basketball game last November 8.

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go was asked by Senator Joel Villanueva what the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) should do when those incidents arise. The senator, who defended the agencies budget, said that he would like Amores to be punched.

Bilang isang basketball player at isang mamamayang Pilipino, ito po ang sagot ko: Dapat bugbugin rin ‘yung John Amores na ‘yan. T*** **a na ‘yan,” the senator said.

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri then immediately interjected and said that Senator Go’s remarks would be stricken off the record, prompting Senator Go to apologize.

As the chairman of the Senate committee on sports, Senator Go said that he’s just saddened about the basketball brawl. He added that the PSC is responsible in promoting sportsmanship and tasked to coordinate all amateur sports development.

The senator noted that the sports commission also has the authority to impose penalty on athletes “for violation of policies, rules, and regulations of the PSC” which includes sports violence.

Senator Go also said that the sports commission is monitoring any developments on the incident – including mulling any possible sanctions on John Amores, who has been suspended by Jose Rizal University and the NCAA Management Committee from playing “indefinitely”.
