Remulla vs Bantag
REMULLA vs BANTAG – Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has no comment on the accusation of suspended Bureau of Corrections Chief, Gerald Bantag.
Bantag demanded Remulla resign as Justice Secretary on Friday for allegedly bungling the investigation into the death of broadcaster Percy Lapid. It was the first time Bantag addressed the public following the filing of murder charges against him and several others in connection with the deaths of Percy Lapid and an alleged middleman in the slay plot, New Bilibid Prison (NBP) inmate Cristito Villamor Palaa.
In a video posted on the SMNI News YouTube channel, Bantag denied the allegations against him and challenged DOJ chief to resign from his position. “Step down, Mr. Secretary, wala na kayong credibility,” Bantag said, accusing the Justice Secretary of “conditioning” the mind of the public to pin him to Percy Lapid’s killing.
The suspended BuCor chief also claimed that Justice secretary is using Percy Lapid’s death to distract attention from his son, Juanito Remulla III, who was arrested on suspicion of illegal drug importation. He said: “Secretary of Justice, kapag na-involve ‘yung anak mo, dapat step down ka,”
Bantag further accused Remulla of having political plans in 2025 and using the DOJ (Department of Justice) for exposure.
Remulla has issued a statement following the accusations of Bantag. However, he did not specifically comment on the accusations hurled against him. He said: “Just face the charges like a man. No comment.”
Remulla is currently in Geneva, Switzerland for the Universal Periodic Review of United Nations Human Rights Committee.
