JRU’s John Amores went rampage during the game vs CSB, punching other players
JOHN AMORES – The Jose Rizal University basketball player went rampage and threw punches during the JRU vs CSB game in the NCAA Season 98 tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre on Tuesday, November 8.
Migs Oczon of the College of St. Benilde just secured a three-point shot (71-51) when cameras rolled to Amores and CSB’s CJ Flores getting entangled on the floor. Amores was then caught in an altercation with the referee.
Amores was escorted out of the game by JRU’s coaching staff. The latter continued to yell at someone on the opposite bench. He eventually charged toward CSB players and threw punches, hitting several cagers from the rival team.
CSB’s Mark Sangco attempted to stop Amores by punching him. However, it only fueled Amores’ rage. He struck Taine Davis in the jaw and Jimboy Pasturan in the eye. Amores was then escorted to the dugout by security.
After an hour of deliberation, the National Collegiate Athletic Association decided to declare CSB the winner.
The NCAA has yet to impose sanctions on the players involved in the incident. However, none became available for JRU to comment on the matter after the team immediately left the court.
This was not Amores’ first outburst. He also threw a punch at Mark Gil Belmonte of the University of the Philippines during the preseason, which resulted in his indefinite suspension from the PG Flex Linoleum-UCBL Preseason Tournament.
Meanwhile, the incident continues to dominate online, garnering the ire of netizens. Some internet users suggest Amores should be banned for life.
