Eric Tayag was appointed as DOH Undersecretary
ERIC TAYAG – Dr. Eric Tayag was appointed as the undersecretary of the Department of Health (DOH).
This was confirmed by Tayag through a text message to the Manila Bulletin on Tuesday, November 15.
Tayag, a former Assistant Health Secretary who is known for promoting DOH programs through dancing, was asked when he will take his oath of office. According to him, he’s “waiting for advice.”
Before he appointed as health undersecretary, Tayag held the position of Director IV of the agency’s Knowledge Management and Information Technology Service.
DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire also confirmed Tayag’s appointment during the press briefing on November 15. According to Vergeire, Tayag’s duties as DOH undersecretary are still being discussed.
“We received the transmittal of his appointment yesterday. He has not taken his oath yet. We are still scheduling [it]. So, he has not assumed the position yet,” Vergeire said. “Pinag-uusapan pa ngayon ng aming mga officials kung saan namin siya appropriately, based on his capacity, mai-assign para mas makatulong sa ating kagawaran.”
Vergeire also disclosed that newly appointed Health Undersecretary Camilo Cascolan had assumed office last Monday, November 14.
Cascolan, who is the former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, is tasked to lead the Field Implementation and Coordination Team in the Visayas. Vergeire also asked Cascolan to develop a mechanism in order to fast-track the inventory of commodities, which could be implemented in other regions.
Malacañang, meanwhile, has not released any information yet on Tayag’s latest appointment in the Department of Health.
