Chavit Singson as Miss Universe Organization owner?
CHAVIT SINGSON – The name of the Filipino politician-businessman resurfaced following Thai billionaire Anne Jakrajutatip’s acquisition of the Miss Universe Organization.
Singson is the major sponsor of the 65th Miss Universe held at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City, on January 23, 2017.
On the other hand, Anne is the chief executive officer of the Thailand-based JKN Global Group.
According to international press reports, she bought the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) from Endeavor Group Holdings Inc. at US$20 million.
But in an interview with the Bangkok Post, Anne said that she paid US$14 million to acquire the MUO.
Singson’s name is being linked because, in previous interviews, he said he spent US$12 million in 2017 as the major sponsor of the 65th Miss Universe.
This only means he has the capacity to acquire the MUO as well.
However, there were speculations that Singson had no interest in buying MUO.
In an interview with Mario Dumaual of ABS-CBN News in June 2018, Singson said that she has not been paid by the private companies that partnered with her when the global beauty pageant was held in the Philippines in January 2017.
“Awa ng Diyos, di pa ako bayad. Maraming rason. I don’t want to name names pero marami pa silang kulang,” he said.
“May sisingilin pa akong P100 million, $2 million. Dapat magbayad na sila,” he added.
Meanwhile, Anne went to Facebook on October 26 wherein she posted a live broadcast about her company’s acquisition of MUO.
According to her, it took her a year to negotiate with Endeavor Group Holdings, Inc. before finally owning the MUO.
Anne said the head office of the Miss Universe Organization will stay in New York City but it will have an office in her JKN Empire building in Bangkok.
Anne plans to hold a Miss Universe pageant in Thailand every two years to promote their country’s tourism.
