Garafil Steps Down As LTFRB Chair, Accepts OIC Post In OPS

Lawyer Cheloy Velicaria – Garafil: “I tendered my resignation as LTFRB Chairperson”

GARAFIL — Lawyer Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil resigned as the chairperson of the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

This, as she accepted the offer to help in the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) as its Officer-in-Charge (OIC) and Undersecretary.

In a statement, she sad that she tendered her resignation as LTFRB chair in order for her to take another role in the Office of the Press Secretary.

Today, October 7, 2022, I tendered my resignation as LTFRB Chairperson as I have accepted the offer to help in the Office of the Press Secretary as its Undersecretary and OIC,” she said.

According to her, she thanked President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr for the opportunity to work with him in his administration to serve the Filipino people.

It was last June when Garafil was appointed by the President to lead the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board.

GMA News Online reported that Garafil served as service director at the Committee on Rules of the House of Representatives. She also served as State Solicitor for the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) and prosecutor for the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Prior to this, the President said that he will announce the new Press Secretary “early next week” but he refused to name the those who are on the shortlist for the next Press Secretary.

The President was asked about his considerations in choosing the next Press Secretary at that time. He said that his next press secretary should be someone who knows messaging well in order to get important information across.
