Taste Atlas named kare-kare as one of the Top 100 best-rated stews

KARE-KARE – The famous Filipino dish has been named among the Top 100 Best-Rated Stews of Taste Atlas.

One of the most popular Pinoy dishes is kare-kare. It is commonly made from a base of stewed oxtail, beef tripe, pork hocks, calves’ feet, pig’s feet or trotters, various cuts of pork, beef stew meat, and occasionally offal and features a thick savory peanut sauce.

Among the vegetables added to this food are the following; eggplant, Chinese cabbage, or other greens, daikon, green beans, okra, and asparagus beans.

Kare-kare is flavored with ground-roasted peanuts or peanut butter, onions, and garlic. It can be thickened with toasted or plain ground rice and is colored with annatto.

The homegrown dish can also be made in different variations such as with seafood like prawns, squid, and mussels.

Kare-kare is often eaten with bagoong (shrimp paste), sometimes spiced with chili, ginisáng bagoóng (spiced and sautéed shrimp paste), and sprinkled with calamansi juice.

Any Filipino fiesta is not complete without the presence of kare-kare.

Meanwhile, kare-kare landed 52nd among the Top 100 best-rated stews in the world according to Taste Atlas.

The Filipino dish earned a rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars from the audience of the website.

On the other hand, among those that entered the top 3 as best-rated stews are the following; Phanaeng Curry of Thailand (Top 3), Keema of India (Top 2) and Kare of Japan (Top 1).
