DepEd Speaks on Readiness of Schools for Face-to-Face Classes

DepEd School Opening Draws Near

DEPED – The Department of Education spoke on the readiness of the schools to conduct face-to-face classes starting Monday, August 22.

Another academic year is about to start in the Philippines. The Department of Education set the opening of classes on August 22, 2022. These include elementary and secondary schools in the country.

In the memo it has released, the education department mandated full face-to-face classes by November. From August 22 to October 31, a mixture of distance learning and in-person classes can be implemented by schools.

DepEd assured that they are preparing the schools for the full face-to-face classes by November. However, according to Malacañang, there might be educational institutions that will still not be ready by that time and blended learning has to be retained in some cases.

Amid the opening of classes drawing near, parents and students are now busy buying school supplies. The education department previously called for donations from the private sector to help those students who really have no money to buy their school supplies.

With regards to the resumption of the face-to-face classes, DepEd said that almost 90% of the schools in the Philippines are ready for it. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the following percentage of schools are reading for these modes of instruction on August 22:

  • 46% – can do 5 days of in-person classes
  • 51.8% – blended learning (distance learning and face-to-face classes)
  • 1.29% – full distance learning

With regards to the enrolees, based on the report, DepEd said that 27 million of the target 28.6 million students have already registered for the next school year. With regards to vaccination, 92% of the teaching and non-teaching personnel are already vaccinated while only 19.18% of the students have received their vaccines.

The education department assured that there will be no discrimination in schools with regards to the vaccination of the students but the health protocols must be observed.
