Here’s the reaction of Tricia Robredo on the proposal to rename NAIA
TRICIA ROBREDO – The daughter of former Vice President Leni Robredo reacted to the proposal of Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. to change the name of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Teves Jr. earlier filed a petition to rename NAIA to Ferdinand E. Marcos International Airport because according to him it is more appropriate considering that the former president has a lot of contribution to the said airport.
In a Twitter post, Robredo questioned the proposal to change the name of NAIA after the father of current president Bongbong Marco in the midst of what is happening in the country’s economy.
“Literally in this economy, ito pa talaga ‘yung uunahin,” she wrote.
Most of her followers agreed with the statement of Leni Robredo’s daughter.
A netizen said that renaming an airport can cost millions- from changing signages leading to it to changing the names in control prompts both locally and internationally.
Another netizen exclaimed that we should be surprised that there’s an establishment or place named after the Marcoses since their return to power.
Marcos Jr. defeated the former vice president in the recent election. Robredo only earned more than 16 million votes while PBBM received over 31 million votes.
Meanwhile, the Palace has kept mum on the proposal of Teves Jr. since it’s just been filed.
“It’s just been filed. After all, wala pang first reading. So, any reaction will be premature, if any, is even warranted at this time,” Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said.
