Here’s an update about the condition of Lydia de Vega
LYDIA DE VEGA – The Philippine track and field legend is in critical condition due to Stage 4 breast cancer.
Her daughter Stephanie Mercado de Koenigswarter revealed the sad news through a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 20.
According to her, although her mom had undergone a series of operations including brain surgery, her condition is quickly worsening as the disease is progressing.
Stephanie shared that her mom has been silently fighting the disease since 2018.
She also requested prayers and financial help to cover the medical expenses of her mother.
Stephanie went on to post the bank details where people could deposit their donations to the track and field legend.

Her post was flooded with prayers and comforting messages from the netizens.
Lydia de Vega was once dubbed as “Asia’s fastest woman” during her reign in the ’80s.
She bagged numerous medals coming from different competitions such as Asian Athletics Championships, Asian Games, and Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
She was also one of the flag bearers in the 2019 SEA Games which were held in the country.
Aside from athletics, she also ventured into politics.
In 2005, she served as councilor in Meycauayan, Bulacan. Later that year, she went to Singapore after receiving three job offers from Singaporean private schools to handle athletics
She was also appointed a liaison officer of the Alliance of Coaches and Athletes of the Philippines with the Philippine Sports Commission.
