Former President Duterte: “I will always hold him close to my heart and cherish the moments we have shared together.”

FORMER PRESIDENT RODRIGO DUTERTE — The former Philippine President mourned the death of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

On Friday, Former Presidential Spokesperson Martin Andanar extended former President Duterte’s condolences to Shinzo Abe’s bereaved family.

According to Andanar, the former President and his wife Honeylet Avanceña are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of the former Japanese Prime Minister. He added that the former President expresses his deep sympathy for Abe’s wife and family.

In a statement, the former President said that Abe was “a good and loyal friend”, a staunch supporter of his administration, and a strong ally of the nation.

As the world mourns the loss of this great man, we remember him for his compassionate service and remarkable leadership. Indeed, one of the most influential world leaders of our time,” the former President said.

The former President also shared photos with the former Japanese Prime Minister along with a statement on his Facebook account.

He said in a statement that Abe wasn’t just the first foreign leader to visit the Philippines after the election but was also the only foreign leader to visit his home in Davao City during his presidency.

For this, I will always hold him close to my heart and cherish the moments we have shared together,” the former President said. “It is my hope that, as we remember his legacy, we will continue to learn and draw from his dedication to duty and remarkable leadership moving forward.

The former Japanese Prime Minister died after being shot while campaigning for a parliamentary election on Friday, July 8.
