Father of the suspect in Ateneo shooting incident, killed by riding in tandem
DR. YUMOL’s FATHER – The father of Dr. Chao Tiao Yumol, the suspect in the Ateneo shooting incident that transpired recently, was killed in front of his home in Basilan.
It was on Sunday, July 24 when a shooting incident took place at Ateneo de Manila University.
Three persons were killed including former Lamitan City Mayor Rosita “Rose” Furigay, her aide Victor George Capistrano, and Jeneven Bandiala, a security guard of the university.
The former mayor was supposed to attend the graduation of her daughter Hannah from law school. when Dr. Yumol went on a killing spree. She was also wounded in the incident.
The police arrested the suspect, identified as Dr. Chao Tiao Yumol, 38, a resident of Lamitan City. Recovered from the scene was a caliber.45 pistol with a silencer. He was arrested on the same day of the shooting. A personal grudge was cited as the motive behind the killing.
Yumol accused the Furigay family of being behind several attempts on his life and of involvement in the illegal drug trade, which their family’s lawyer denied.
The Quezon City prosecutor’s office has indicted the doctor who is facing three counts of murder, one count of frustrated murder, car theft, malicious mischief, and violation of Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
Meanwhile, the father of Dr. Chao Tiao Yumol was shot dead in front of his house in Barangay Rizal in Lamitan City, Basilan.
Lamitan City Police said Yumol’s father was shot by unidentified suspects onboard a motorcycle at 6:30 a.m.
Yumol’s father accumulated four (4) gunshot wounds.
The police are currently investigating the incident.
