His camp announced on Wednesday that BBM was personally invited by Thai Chargé d’ Affaires Thawat Sumitmor to the APEC Summit.

The invitation took place during their courtesy call earlier this week.

APEC Summit 2022 is slated to happen on November 18 and 19.

Established in 1989, APEC Summit seeks to promote sustainable economic growth, trade, and investment, in the Asia-Pacific region.

This year’s APEC Summit is hosted by Thailand and it will be the first in-person summit since 2018.

In 2019, Chile was chosen as the host country but due to protests, the in-person summit was canceled. And because of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-2021, it was conducted virtually.

Based on their website, APEC Summit 2022 will “focus on restoring connectivity by resuming safe and seamless cross-border travel, reinvigorating tourism and the services sector, facilitating business mobility as well as increasing investment in health security.”

This year’s theme is “Open. Connect. Balance.”

Meanwhile, last June 6, Bongbong Marcos met with the ambassadors of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

According to him, ASEAN will play a vital role in the economic recovery of the region amid the onslaught of the coronavirus pandemic.

Among those present in the said meeting are the following; Sumitmor, Brunei Darussalam Ambassador to the Philippines Johariah Wahab, Cambodia’s Phan Peuv, and Indonesia’s Agus Widjojo, Singapore Ambassador Gerard Ho, and Vietnam Ambassador Hoang Huy Chung, and Lao People’s Democratic Republic Ambassador Songkane Luangmuninthone.
