Kai Sotto was supposed to be the first true-blooded Filipino in the NBA, however, he was undrafted
KAI SOTTO – The 7 feet 3 inches tall Filipino basketball player failed to enter the National Basketball Association after being undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft.
Kai started to play basketball when he was only four years old.
He’s the son of Ervin Sotto, a former player of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), and Pamela Sotto.
Kai grew up idolizing basketball players like Tim Duncan, June Mar Fajardo and Kristaps Porziņģis.
He last played for the Adelaide 36ers of the Australian National Basketball League (NBL).
Kai Sotto also played for the Ateneo Blue Eaglets of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) before moving to The Skill Factory (TSF) in Atlanta, Georgia.
It was on April 28, 2022, when Sotto declared for the 2022 NBA draft. However, earlier today, he was undrafted.
In an interview with News5 minutes after the NBA Draft, he said: “I’m thankful for all the support of my fellow Filipinos.”
“I just feel like I let a lot of people down. I will remember this feeling so next time I’ll do my best. I have a chip on my shoulder,” he added.
