Pres. Duterte admits Seeking Exemption from ROTC during his College Years
DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte asked the livestream of his speech during an event to be stopped after admitting he sought ROTC exemption.
The term of Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is about to end. At the noontime of June 30, a new president will take his place. He is almost done packing his things in Malacañang and is ready to go home to Davao City.
The last few weeks of the President in office is still quite busy with a lot of events to attend to. A Legacy Summit wherein the accomplishments of the different government agencies and departments during his term were presented was held. He also met with the Filipino medalists in the recent 31st Southeast Asian Games.
Pres. Duterte spoke before the Pinoy medalists. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, during his speech which was put on livestream, the President admitted to seeking exemption from the mandatory Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). He asked the livestream to be stopped.
Based on the report, the President talked to an ROTC officer complaining that he cannot finish his ROTC training. The officer allegedly told him that there is a way if he has an illness.
Before the livestream was cut, Pres. Duterte was heard saying he went to San Lazaro Hospital which is located near his alma mater, San Beda College in Manila. He asked the camera to be stopped saying that the conversation is only between him and the people present at the recognition event.
The President’s daughter, vice president-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio, is pushing for mandatory ROTC for Filipino students. She will head the Department of Education (DepEd) under the next administration but she clarified that it has nothing to do with her previous push for mandatory ROTC since it is basic education that is covered by the department.
