Outgoing DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III: “Marami akong plano.”
FRANCISCO DUQUE III — The outgoing Health Secretary plans to help run the family university in Dagupan City after his stint at the Department of Health (DOH).
Duque has been at the helm of the Department of Health since 2017. As DOH Secretary, his department led the Philippine government’s response to a global coronavirus pandemic.
On Tuesday, Duque said in an interview on One News’ The Chiefs that he’s planning to go back to the private sector and wants to help run the family university in Dagupan City. He’s also planning to teach at the said university as well.
“Marami akong plano. I wanna go back to the private sector, I want to help run the family university in Dagupan City where I will also teach,” he said.
According to him, he used to teach in the university’s College of Medicine and he planned to introduce universal healthcare into its medical curriculum.
It was during his DOH stint that President Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11223 or the Universal Healthcare law, which seeks to give all Filipino people access to quality healthcare.
“Para bata pa, alam na nila, may appreciation na kung ano ba itong Universal Health Care beyond aspiration but how do you implement this, what is the roadmap for the Philippine Universal Healthcare,” he said.
The outgoing Health Secretary will step down from office at the end of June 2022.

According to him, he previously taught criminal law and proceedings as a part-time professor in a police academy in Davao City, and he’s planning to return to teaching once his term ends on June 30.
“Kaya sabi ko, magturo ako uli. Alam mo saan ako magturo? Balik ako sa… nagpart-time professor ako ng police academy sa amin sa Davao. I was teaching criminal law, criminal evidence, and criminal proceedings,” President Duterte said in his speech.
