Incoming Press Secretary Atty. Rose Beatrix “Trixie” Cruz-Angeles said in a statement that Enrile has accepted the position, saying that the former senator reaffirmed his commitment to serve the Philippines and to ensure the success of the incoming administration.

According to the veteran lawmaker, he would devote his time and knowledge for the country and for President-elect Bongbong Marcos because he wanted the incoming President to succeed.

Enrile served as the defense minister, finance secretary, and justice secretary of late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. He also served as Senate President.

Also announced by Cruz-Angeles on Friday were the designations retired General Jose Faustino Jr. as senior undersecretary and officer-in-charge of the Department of National Defense (DND) and outgoing Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra as solicitor general.

According to Cruz-Angeles, Guevarra accepted his nomination as solicitor general-designate during his meeting with the incoming President on Thursday.

She added that the outgoing Justice Secretary was tapped to head the OSG (Office of the Solicitor General) “for his sterling performance as a lawyer for over 30 years”.

The incoming press secretary also said that retired General Jose Faustino Jr. and incoming National Security Adviser, retired UP Professor Clarita Carlos, also met with the incoming President on Thursday.

Cruz-Angeles said that Faustino will become the full-fledged Defense secretary on November 13, 2022.

Faustino’s situation was similar to current Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año’s case, whom President Duterte designated as officer-in-charge but later assumed the secretary position once the appointment ban lapsed,” Cruz-Angeles explained.
