Taylor Swift: “My experience has been that my mistakes led to the best things in my life. And being embarrassed when you mess up is part of the human experience.”
TAYLOR SWIFT — The singer-songwriter told graduates of New York University (NYU) that everything would be all right, echoing the sentiments of her hit single “22”.
On Wednesday, Taylor received a warm welcome to NYU when she accepted an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree, honoris causa, from the institution.
She attended the 2022 all-school commencement ceremony at Yankee Stadium and delivered a commencement speech for this year’s graduates. Vice President Leni Robredo’s daughter Jillian is one of the graduates of the said institution.
In his speech, the singer-songwriter praised the NYU graduates for taking on the challenge of attending college during a coronavirus pandemic. She also shared that her mistakes led to the best things in her life.
“My experience has been that my mistakes led to the best things in my life. And being embarrassed when you mess up is part of the human experience,” she said.
She also urged students to make the most of their choices.

According to her, every choice a person makes leads to the next choice which leads to the next, and she knows it’s hard to know sometimes which path to take.
Taylor also said that sometimes the right thing to do is “to throw out the old schools of thought in the name of progress and reform”.
Earlier this year, Taylor was the subject of a half-semester course at New York University in the Clive Davis Institute of Recording Arts.
Meanwhile, Taylor’s boyfriend Joe Alwyn said in an interview on Extra that his girlfriend earning her doctorate degree is “an incredible honor, it’s absolutely amazing”.
