According to the poll body official, the Commission on Elections may already proclaim the winners for local positions as early as the evening of the election day on May 9 up to May 10.

However, he said that the partial and unofficial quick count of votes may already indicate a presidential and vice-presidential winner 2-3 days after the election day.

For president and vice president, it’s Congress jointly canvassing the result for president and vice president and Congress will resume session on May 23 to officially count or canvass the results for president and vice president,” Garcia said.

Meanwhile, the camp of presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr is urging COMELEC Commissioner Marlon Casquejo to address and look into to reports of non-working VCMs or vote-counting machines ahead of the 2022 elections.

Bongbong’s spokesperson Atty. Vic Rodriguez made the call on Thursday as he questioned why Casquejo “is not reporting on the malfunctioning, nonworking and defective VCMs”.

According to him, Casquejo should make a report in public on the capacity of the poll body’s regional hubs to troubleshoot or replace malfunctioning machines.
