Walden Bello: “Release Senator de Lima now”
WALDEN BELLO – The vice presidential candidate took to social media wherein he called for the release of Sen. Leila de Lima.
Leila Norma Eulalia Josefa Magistrado de Lima, a politician, lawyer, human rights activist, and law professor is currently serving as senator of the Philippines since 2016.
Previously, she held the positions of Chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights from May 2008 to June 2010, and as the Secretary of Justice from 2010 to 2015 under the administration of late president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
In 2017, she was arrested for her alleged link to the drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison during her term as the Justice secretary.
Presently, she is running for the senate again under the slate of presidential candidate, Vice President Leni Robredo.
But earlier, self-confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa recanted his claims against de Lima.
This prompted the friends and supporters of de Lima to react by calling for her release.
Among those is no less than the vice-presidential candidate, Walden Bello.
Bello is running for vice president alongside his running mate, Leody “Ka Leody” de Guzman.
Here’s the Twitter post of Walden Bello:
Recently, Espinosa admitted that he was only forced to testify against de Lima, who was the former secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ).
He also apologized to de Lima.
Leila de Lima has yet to issue an official statement with regards to the confession of Espinosa.
On Twitter, #FreeLeilaNow is making a buzz with over 25.8k tweets already as netizens and her supporters call for her immediate release.
