Comelec Speaks on Voting Allegations in Singapore, Dubai Circulating on Social Media
COMELEC – The Commission on Elections reacted to the claims that there were allegedly “pre-shaded” ballots handed to voters in Singapore and Dubai.
The Elections 2022 is set to take place in less than a month in the Philippines. Both local and national polls are set to be held and, currently, the candidates are busy campaigning to the people.
Most especially the national candidates, the bets are in the pursuit to reach as many areas as they can and speak to as many people as they can before the election campaign period is over. Caravans, motorcades, and grand rallies are taking place left and right now.
With regards to the Filipinos abroad, they can still vote in the 2022 Elections through the Overseas or the Absentee Voting. The voting has started in several nations abroad.
According to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), there are manual voting and there are also voting processes abroad that utilized the automated system. The poll body tagged the first day of the Absentee voting as “successful” despite the failure of some posts to open.
According to the Commission, the failure of some posts to open is inevitable due to various reasons. Security measures, lockdowns, and flight problems are among the reasons why some posts have yet to open.
However, on social media, there are claims that pre-shaded ballots were handed to some voters abroad most especially the voters in Singapore and Dubai. Comelec reacted to the said claim calling it “Fake News”.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said that in case the ballots were “pre-shaded”, the watchers could have seen it. He also stressed that such incidents should have been indicated on the minutes of the voting in case there are really circumstances like those.
According to Garcia, the poll body’s task force against fake news will investigate the allegations. He stressed that those who will be spreading fake news will be facing charges.
