Jessy Mendiola: “Dumating din talaga sa point na parang ako nagkaroon ng wake-up call na feeling ko, parang sobrang immature ko.”
JESSY MENDIOLA — The actress recently admitted that she’s “immature” during the start of her relationship with her husband Luis Manzano.
Jessy and Luis recently celebrated their 1st wedding anniversary.
They reflected on their first year as a married couple in Luis Manzano’s YouTube channel. One of the things Luis’s wife reflected on was how much her approach to the relationship had changed through the years.
Jessy was quick to admit that she’s “immature” during the start of her relationship with her husband.
“Bago tayo ikasal—or even nung bago pa relationship natin—I would always compare myself sa iyo, yung achievements ni Howhow. Siyempre, hindi naman din joke yung negativity na natanggap natin nung nagsimula relationship natin, di ba?,” Jessy said in the March 1 vlog. “Dumating din talaga sa point na parang ako nagkaroon ng wake-up call na feeling ko, parang sobrang immature ko.“
The actress elaborated that her immature mindset led her to keep comparing her career to her husband’s, which didn’t help the relationship.
Before, she thought it’s best if her path is “intertwined” with her husband’s. But as she learned more and more that comparison wasn’t helpful, Jessy realized the value of “individuality” in a relationship.
Speaking from experience, the actress advised viewers to be mindful when those comparison thoughts arise.

When the actress let go of her immature mindset, Jessy saw how it improved her relationship with her husband.
“Madadala sa ibang level yung relationship niyo. Parang na kayo best friends, mag-asawa, boyfriend-girlfriend, partners sa lahat,” Jessy said.
Jessy and Luis became a couple in 2016 and tied the knot on February 21, 2021.
