Based on the initial report of the women and children cybercrime protection unit of the PNP anti-cybercrime group, they launched an entrapment operation after the victim approached their office.

The victim was allegedly forced to pay about P1 million so that her videos and photos while doing something confidential alongside her ex-boyfriend would not spread on social media.

At first, the suspect pretended that he also received messages that an unknown person was allegedly blackmailing him.

But later it was discovered that he also sent messages to his cell phone, using another number.

The suspect will face charges of violating Republic Act 9262 or the Violence Against Women and Children and Robbery Extortion in relation to Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

What happened to the victim may be considered a “love scam.”

One concrete example is the case of a 74-year-old grandmother who almost fell victim to her so-called online lover who claimed to be a US Army general.

Last year, a certain Lola Aida Real, who introduced herself on social media as a widower who has a business, shared how she almost gave a whopping two hundred thousand pesos to her online lover.

As part of the modus, Lola Aida was told by her online lover to send money (P200,000 as a processing fee), in exchange for 2 million pesos and a promise that he will marry her.

Fortunately, she was able to regain her senses from the so-called “online gayuma.”
