Husband of Bohol Town Mayor Admits Involvement in her Death
HUSBAND OF BOHOL TOWN MAYOR – Niño Rey Boniel, the partner of the late former Bien Unido, Bohol Mayor Gisela Boniel pleaded guilty to her death.
Most death cases point to the suspects not being one of the members of the family or a close friend. In fact, there are even a lot of death cases when the suspects are strangers to the loved ones of the victim.
However, like a few cases, the death case of the late former Bien Unido, Bohol Mayor Gisela Boniel is different. There are several suspects in her death and one of them is her own husband, former Bohol provincial board member Niño Rey Boniel.
Around five (5) years ago, the death of Mayor Boniel sparked news reports and left countless hearts broken. She was reportedly shot and her body was dumped in the waters off Cuabian Island in Cebu.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, it was the cousin of the husband of the Bohol town Mayor, Roilito Boniel, who testified and claimed that he saw the former board member shoot his wife and throw her body to the waters in Cebu.
Aside from Niño Boniel, there are four (4) others who were suspects over the death of Mayor Boniel. Recently, an update about her case crossed the surface.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the husband of the Bohol town Mayor and four (4) others who were accused of having an involvement in her death pleaded guilty before the Regional Trial Court Branch 70 in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
According to the report, Niño submitted his guilty plea through a plea bargaining agreement. State prosecutor Virgil Ligutan said that he’s sentenced to imprisonment of at least eight years and 1 day to 14 years. He is also facing other charges including serious illegal detention.
Ligutan stressed that justice has been served on the death of the late former Mayor of Bien Unido, Bohol. More updates may be posted soon.
