DOH Gives Update on the COVID-19 Pandemic in PH

DOH – The Department of Health revealed the COVID risk classification in the Philippines now amid the lowering of the cases.

The fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is going on for more than two (2) years now. The threats of the virus are still present thus some restrictions are still up in the country to prevent its spread.

Currently, the Philippines is in the pursuit of vaccinating more Filipinos against the COVID-19. Different brands of the vaccine including Sinovac, Pfizer, Moderna, Janssen, and AstraZeneca were either donated to the country or procured by the national government.

The vaccination is open for all eligible adults. Many fully vaccinated individuals have already received their booster shots.

The Department of Health (DOH) has also started the vaccination drives for kids aged 5-11 years old. It started in Metro Manila last February 7, 2022.

The whole National Capital Region (NCR) remains under Alert Level 2 until February 28. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, DOH said that the COVID classification risk in the Philippines now is “low risk”.

Based on the date of the health department, the average daily cases in the Philippines from February 8 until February 14 was 3,521. It is 56% lower compared to the average daily cases in the prior week.

According to DOH, most of the regions in the Philippines are under “low risk” now except for the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Davao Region, Western Visayas, and Soccsksargen which are under “moderate risk”.

Based on the report, the Health Department projects that the situation may be even better in the middle of March based on the behavior of the Omicron variant, the mobility of the people, the vaccination coverage, and the practice of the health protocols.
