DOCTOR – National Children’s Hospital head Dr. Moriel Creencia revealed what the kids aged 5-11 experience after the vaccination.
The rolling out of the vaccines against COVID-19 for kids has started in the Philippines. Pfizer came up with a vaccine concentration for children 5-11 years old.
Supposedly, the vaccination of kids was set to start last February 4. However, the logistic challenges pushed it further to February 7 in Metro Manila. The vaccination of kids outside Metro Manila is set to start on February 14, 2022.
Previously, there was a petition filed by parents seeking not to push through the vaccination of kids. Despite it, the health authorities continued with the plan stressing that the vaccination is not mandatory.
Furthermore, the Department of Health (DOH) said that parents’ consent is really needed in the vaccination of minors. The children are also assessed before the giving of the jab.
Different child-friendly activities were prepared in the vaccination sites for kids. There are mascots, chocolates, and film showing to ease the sting of the vaccination.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, at the National Children’s Hospital, around 237 children aged 5-11 got their jabs on the first day of the vaccination. NCH doctor Moriel Creencia also spoke on what the kids experience after the vaccination.
According to the report, the doctor said that most kids experienced minor pain in the area of their vaccination. No one developed a fever. She stressed that they were really praying that no child will develop a negative reaction as an effect of the vaccination.
After getting the jab, the kids have to stay for 15 minutes in the post-vaccination area for monitoring. For children with a history of allergy, they will be monitored for 30 minutes. Currently, the target of the hospital is to vaccinate 300 kids daily.
