SSS To Offer Calamity Assistance Package To “Odette” Victims

The SSS will offer a calamity assistance package to members and pensioners affected by typhoon “Odette”.

SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM (SSS) — The state-run pension fund will offer a calamity assistance package to its pensioners and members who were affected by typhoon “Odette” starting January 14.

Contribution Hike

The state-run pension fund had set aside PHP 2.18 billion in assistance to its members and pensioners in the 6 regions battered by the typhoon last month.

SSS said in a statement on Monday that it expected up to 236,509 active members and private-sector retirees to avail of the 3 types of assistance to be extended to “Odette” victims starting January 14.

The regions of MIMAROPA, Western Visayas (Region VI), Central Visayas (Region VII), Eastern Visayas (Region VIII), Northern Mindanao (Region X), and CARAGA had been placed under a state of calamity since December 21.

Pensioners and members in those areas can avail of the calamity assistance package to be rolled out by the state-run pension fund this week.

SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Aurora C. Igancio said in a statement that the calamity assistance package consists of the Direct House Repair and Improvement Loan and the Calamity Loan Assistance Program (CLAP) for members, and the 3-month advance pension for pensioners in areas affected by the typhoon.

It is unfortunate that the recent typhoon affected the daily lives and livelihood of our members and pensioners in these several areas. Through the SSS Calamity Assistance Package, we can extend financial aid to our members and pensioners as they try to recover from the effects of Typhoon Odette,” Ignacio said.

The state-run pension fund will offer the Calamity Loan Assistance Program for its members and the 3-month Advance Pension to its pensioners until April 13.

The said loan is payable for two years.

Qualified SSS members whose houses were damaged or destroyed because of typhoon “Odette”, meanwhile, may apply for the Direct House Repair and/or Improvement Loan. Under the said loan, qualified SSS members can borrow a maximum loanable amount of up to PHP 1 million.

Inquirer reported that applications can be filed online via the SSS website and the state-run pension fund will waive application fees.

SSS offices such as the main office in Quezon City and regional offices in Cagayan de Oro City, Bacolod City, Davao City, Cebu City, San Pablo City, and Zamboanga City will also accommodate interested applicants.
