AFP Chief-of-Staff General Andres Centino has tested positive for COVID-19.
AFP — Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief-of-Staff General Andres Centino has tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
AFP spokesperson Colonel Ramon Zagala said in a statement issued on Friday that General Centino was in an isolation facility in Camp Aguinaldo wherein he will continue to perform his duty amidst quarantine.
According to Zagala, General Centino “remains in full command of the AFP”.
“The Armed Forces of the Philippines confirms that the AFP chief of staff, General Andres Centino, has tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday,” Zagala said. “He remains in full command of the AFP, supervising all units in carrying out their assigned tasks through all allowed and available means.”
Zagala also said that General Centino reminded military personnel to always observe safety measures and to follow health protocols in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease.
To perform their mandate, Zagala said that the AFP maintained advocating the preservation of the military force.

Earlier, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Dionardo Carlos said that he tested positive for COVID-19 and was under isolation.
“I experienced fever, chills, and body sweats Sunday evening but come Monday only lower back pain remains,” Carlos said in a message to reporters on Tuesday.
The country reported on Thursday 17,220 additional coronavirus cases, the highest since September 27 last year when 18,396 coronavirus cases were recorded.
The total coronavirus case count in the Philippines stood at 2,888,917, of which 56,561 or 2% were active cases.
