President Duterte has ordered OES to release PHP 4 billion from its funds to LGUs devastated by “Odette”
PRESIDENT DUTERTE — The Philippine President has ordered the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) to release PHP 4 billion from its funds to local government units (LGUs) devastated by typhoon “Odette”.
On Thursday, the office of Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go said that President Duterte likewise directed the downloading of funds to the DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) to back the agency’s program to give PHP 5,000 cash assistance to every household affected by typhoon “Odette”.
“Meanwhile, the Office of the Executive Secretary is directed by President Duterte to release Php4 billion funds for typhoon-affected LGUs by Thursday or Friday,” Go’s office said in a statement. “The President also instructed to download funds to DSWD for the P5,0000 financial assistance per family.”
The President made the directive as he visited Siargao and Dinagat Islands on Wednesday. President Duterte likewise asked the DOE (Department of Energy) to urge gas station owners to resume operations.

The Department of Human Settlements and the Urban Development and the National Housing Authority were also tasked to provide construction materials to typhoon victims.
President Duterte talked to local leaders of Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, and some Cabinet members in Kabankalan City last December 20. The President assured them that the government is prepared to address the devastation caused by Odette in their areas.
Inquirer reported that the President distributed assistance to typhoon victims during his visits.
The President had recently declared a state of calamity in areas affected by the typhoon, particularly MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Central Visayas, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao.
According to a report on Inquirer, “Odette” was reportedly the strongest tropical cyclone to hit the country this year.
