President Duterte: “We’re trying to scrimp how much we can raise so we can marshal it to the areas affected.”
PRESIDENT DUTERTE — The Philippine President said that the government was still trying to raise funds for people affected by typhoon “Odette”.
The President said that the government was still trying to raise funds in order to help the people affected by typhoon “Odette” since most of the country’s funds were funneled to its pandemic response efforts.
President Duterte said in a virtual briefing on the effects of the typhoon last December 17 that he was late to the meeting because he had to talk to the DBM (Department of Budget and Management) about the funds for disaster response.
“We are trying to raise the money… Alam mo, depleted and budget natin immensely because of COVID,” the President confessed. “Naubos talaga ang pera natin. We prioritized the expenses.”
However, the President assured the public that the government was doing its best in order to address the effects of what he called the “imponderables” like typhoons.
