Omicron Patient in Israel Dies 2 Weeks after Hospital Admission
ISRAEL – The country confirmed that it recorded its first death case of the Omicron variant of COVID-19at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba.
A new variant of COVID-19, named by the World Health Organization “Omicron”, caused alarm to different nations across the globe. It was reported to be a “heavily mutated” variant of the virus thus WHO warned nations to prevent its entry and spread.
Omicron was first detected in South Africa. Amid travel bans set by different nations, more than 17 countries across the globe now have recorded cases of the said variant of concern.
One of those countries that recorded cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is Israel. Recently, one of its patients died.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Omicron patient who died was admitted at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba. He was at the hospital’s coronavirus ward for two (2) weeks before he passed away.
According to the Israeli hospital, the man who is in his sixties was positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19 but his death stemmed from multiple pre-existing health conditions. He is the first Omicron death case in Israel.
The media reported that the patient is fully-vaccinated against the COVID-19. Earlier, the total count for the Omicron cases in the country reached 340.
Previously, studies found that the Omicron variant may be milder than the Delta variant but WHO stressed that more pieces of evidence are needed thus ongoing monitoring of the variant’s behavior is done.
It was around two (2) years ago when the COVID-19 pandemic started. The virus was reported to have been first recorded in China. WHO said that it might be a long-term battle thus nations must keep their guards up to prevent surges of the cases.
