House approved a bill requiring planes to play Pinoy music upon landing.
HOUSE BILL — On Monday, the House of Representatives has approved on third and final reading a bill that would require planes to play Pinoy music upon landing.
The House of Representatives had recently approved a draft measure that would mandate the playing of Filipino songs in tourist buses, resorts, restaurants, hotels, and all inbound international flights.
Deputy Speaker Lito Atienza, one of the primary authors of the said bill, said that the measure should promote nationalism and attract more tourists to return to the country.
The other authors of the said bill include Tingog Representative Yedda Marie Romualdez, Laguna Representative Sol Aragones, Batanes Representative Ciriaco Gato Jr., Pangasinan Representative Christopher de Venecia, and Nueva Ecija Representative Micaela Violago, among others.
“It is going to be a very effective way to promote the Filipino culture, tradition, values, and our real character as a people,” Atienza said last Tuesday.
The said bill will be sent to the Senate for its approval.

Voting 179-0-0, the chamber approved House Bill No. 10305 which required international flights to devote at least 50% of its piped-in music to Filipino songs upon landing in the Philippines.
Under the said bill, 50% of the playlist of tourists buses must be local songs, while the repertoire of resorts, restaurants, and hotels must be 25% Filipino music.
According to a report on Inquirer, the proponents said that they wanted to showcase native culture through Philippine music.
Songs that were originally written and composed by Filipinos, regardless of whether the lyrics were in English or Filipino or in any regional language or dialect, will be considered Philippine music.
Inquirer reported that the said measure imposed fines on violators: Airline companies failing to play the required music as their aircraft land in the Philippines face a PHP 300,000 fine, while bus operators will pay PHP 50,000 for every offense and the fine for restaurants, hotels, and resorts is PHP 20,000 for every offense.
