Church leader urged the faithful to observe the 9-day “Simbang Gabi”.
CHURCH LEADER — Kalibo Bishop Jose Corazon Tala-oc was urging the faithful to observe the 9-day “Simbang Gabi” (Misa De Aguinaldo).
Tala-oc also cited the importance of the observance in the faithful’s spiritual preparation for Jesus Christ’s birth.
Tala-oc said over Radio Veritas that the “Simbang Gabi” or Aguinaldo masses this year can be celebrated in all parish churches and chapels, but health protocols such as social distancing and wearing of face masks must be strictly observed and proper coordination must be facilitated with the respective local government units (LGUs) and other concerned agencies.
The prelate also said that the 9-day novenario was in honor of the Blessed Mother. Tala-oc urged those who were planning to observe the “Simbang Gabi” from December 16 to 24 to attend the dawn masses.

According to the bishop, the anticipated masses held from December 15 to 23 were allowed by the diocese if those have “genuine pastoral reason”, but weren’t being promoted.
Likewise, Tala-oc reminded dioceses to coordinate with their local government units (LGUs) the holding of the masses in order to ensure the safety of the mass goers.
The prelate also said that different venues which facilitate social distancing such as covered courts and public plazas may be utilized in order to provide extra security and safety for everybody.
“We encourage the parish priests and Parish Team Ministry Moderators to coordinate with their LGUs with regard to the schedule of the ‘Simbang Gabi’ masses in their respective parishes,” Tala-oc said.
