President Duterte publicly endorsed Senator Bong Go as his presidential bet for the 2022 elections.
PRESIDENT RODRIGO DUTERTE — The Philippine President publicly endorsed Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go as his presidential bet for the 2022 elections.
The President made the pronouncement during the joint National Task Force – Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Conflict (NTF-RTF ELCAC) MIMAROPA meeting in Oriental Mindoro last November 18.
The incumbent senator was the longtime aide and friend of the President. According to President Duterte, Go had been his aide for 23 years.
“I am not into politicking, but let me just state for the record and in no uncertain terms that ang kandidato ko pagka-presidente ay si Bong Go,” President Duterte said.
The President had reportedly endorsed Go for president and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte for vice president during a meeting with lawmakers in Malacañang last Tuesday night.
Cabinet Secretary and acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles only confirmed that the President had an “informal and relaxed gathering” with lawmakers in Malacañang.

But the President’s statement during the NTF-RTF ELCAC MIMAROPA meeting was as categorical as can be, at least as far as Senator Go was concerned.
The President shared that Go offered to be the temporary aide-de-camp years ago, became the chief of staff of the office, and became a senator afterward.
Going on full adlib mode in his speech, the President described Go as a “bright” person who can compute mathematical equations in his head.
“You know, one thing ang sabi ko sa inyo, itong Bong na ito, magkuwenta ng whatever, magkuwenta ng pera o percentage or — gagamitin lang ito, hindi ito nagsusulat. Ganoon kahusay ito sa… Well, bright tapos always wala… Anong buhay niya, basketball,” President Duterte said, revealing one of Go’s hobbies.
