Trillanes believed that the Leni-Bongbong “rematch” will likely happen in the 2022 elections.
Senatorial aspirant Antonio Trillanes IV believed that the 2022 elections will be a rematch of the 2016 face-off between former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr and Vice President Leni Robredo.
This, as Leni and Bongbong were both seeking to become the country’s next president.
The former senator said during an online interview that Robredo’s biggest opponent will be Marcos. However, Trillanes admitted that the fight next year will be “more formidable” because of the “combined forces” of the Dutertes and Marcoses.
“Kaya kailangan dito puspusan na kampanyahan. Hindi pwede ‘yung kampanyang mayaman, ika nga. Kelangan dito kayod talaga. Kasi mabigat, mabigat ‘yung laban,” Trillanes said.
Trillanes even welcomed presidential aspirant Senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao’s criticisms of Bongbong Marcos because the latter was “the man to beat”.
The former senator also said that he expected another presidential aspirant, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, to soon target Marcos.

Trillanes acknowledged the long road ahead of them despite the outpouring of support for Robredo on social media.
“We are assuming na bagong slate po ito, clean slate, back to zero. We are approaching the elections that way. Kailangang magpakilalang muli sa lahat ng mga botante, lalo na ngayon maraming mga bagong botante,” Trillanes said.
Trillanes added that they’re looking at ways on how to correct the issues and malicious posts made against them by their political rivals, as well as monitor where they have a stronghold.
