Robin and his brother Rommel Padilla took their oath administered by Cusi, who was the president of the ruling PDP-Laban party.

In a statement, the PDP-Laban confirmed that the actor was running for senator under the ruling party, while his brother will make another bid as Nueva Ecija 1st District representative.

Padilla supported and campaigned for President Rodrigo Duterte in the 2016 national elections and also campaigned for Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go when the latter successfully ran for senator in 2019.

The Padilla brothers were from a family of politicians and actors. Their father, Roy Padilla, served as governor of Camarines Norte in 1970 and assemblyman in 1980, while their mother, Eva Cariño, was an actress.

Earlier, Cusi said that four Cabinet members — Harry Roque, Salvador Panelo, Mark Villar, and Greco Belgica — would proceed with their 2022 senatorial bids under the banner of PDP-Laban.

Aspirants for national positions started filing their certificates of candidacy (COC) last October 1 and the deadline was on October 8, 2021.

The campaign period for national positions was from February 8 to May 7, while the campaign period for candidates in local elective positions was from March 25 to May 7, 2022.

Meanwhile, COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez said that political aspirants who allowed rallies or mass gatherings of their supporters during the COC filing will be held accountable if such became “superspreader” events.
