President Duterte encouraged Filipinos to vote for “new faces” in the 2022 elections.
On Tuesday, President Rodrigo Duterte recently encouraged Filipinos to vote for “new faces” in their senatorial lineup in the 2022 elections.
In his latest “Talk to the People” briefing, President Duterte urged the public to “scout new faces” in their senatorial lineup in the 2022 elections.
“Mga kababayan ko, dito tayo sa kampon ng tama, huwag kayo sa kampon ng mali. Sabihin ko sa inyo, mamili kayo ng bagong mga opisyal, senador, bagong basta yung bago. Hindi naman kailangan wala talaga, hindi sa gobyerno. They might be government officials. Past or present. But try to scout new faces,” President Duterte said.
The President made the statement after he again aired his frustration on senators inviting vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. and Health Secretary Francisco Duque III in the inquiry of “overpriced” pandemic supply procurement.
Duque and other health officials skipped the Senate blue ribbon committee hearing, led by panel chair Gordon, citing President Duterte’s memorandum order requiring Cabinet members to seek clearance before attending the upper chamber’s investigation.

At one point, the President suggested to the public to not vote for Senator Richard Gordon, who was seeking reelection in the 2022 elections. To recall, it was last month when President Duterte said that he would campaign against Senator Gordon for being unfit to be a senator.
Senator Gordon was currently included in the senatorial lineup of Vice President and presidential aspirant Leni Robredo.
“‘Wag na pabalik balik. ‘wag na kay Gordon. Ano nakuha ninyo kay Gordon? the PDAF (Priority Development Assistance Fund) pati mukha nila inilagay sa ambulansya,” President Duterte said.
Meanwhile, the President said that he wanted the Office of the Ombudsman to take cognizance of Senator Gordon’s alleged failure to pay the PHP 86 million he owed to the government.
