DOLE Chief Silvestre Bello Reveals “Big Condition” for 2022 Senatorial Bid
DOLE CHIEF SILVESTRE BELLO III – The Labor Secretary revealed his “favorite standard bearer” that can make him run in Election 2022.
The Commission on Election (COMELEC) set October 8, 2021 as the deadline of the filing of Certificate of Candidacy (COC). One of those who filed his COC for senator was a certain Silvestre “Estring” Bello Jr.
Initially, the said senatorial aspirant was mistaken to be Secretary Silvestre Bello III of the Department of Labor and Employment. Meanwhile, the Labor Chief clarified that the senatorial aspirant is his older brother.
Speaking to ANC’s Headstart, DOLE chief Silvestre Bello III admitted that he is also considering a senatorial bid but under a “very big condition”. It may happen if his “favorite standard bearer” will file her candidacy for president.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, DOLE chief Silvestre Bello III is referring to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte as his “favorite standard bearer”. According to him, in case he won’t run for senator, his brother will push through with the campaign as he also has an experience in public service.
According to Bello, his older brother Estring Bello used to be the director of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). He has also served as a governor.
In the case of Mayor Sara, she filed her candidacy for re-election as Davao City Mayor. She previously talked to her supporters seeking understanding that she is determined to finish her three (3) terms in Davao City.
However, amid the Davao City Mayor having filed her candidacy for the mayoralty race and being consistent in interviews that she won’t run for president, many speculate that there might be some last minute changes and she would substitute a presidential aspirant.
The speculations are linked to PDP-Laban Cusi wing. According to Department of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, they are not considering the presidential daughter to be their standard bearer as she made it clear that she won’t run under PDP-Laban.
