Bam Aquino will lead Leni Robredo’s 2022 presidential campaign.
Former senator Bam Aquino announced that he’s setting aside his senatorial bid next year to lead Vice President Leni Robredo’s presidential campaign.
Bam sought reelection in the Senate last 2019 but failed to clinch a seat.
The former senator was earlier nominated to be part of the Liberal Party’s senatorial slate in the 2022 elections.
Bam shared in his social media post that Robredo asked him to be her campaign manager, adding that he decided to set aside his senatorial bid to lead her presidential campaign.
The former senator also pledged to do his utmost in order to ensure Robredo’s election.
“Ibubuhos po natin ang ating buong lakas, bitbit ang suporta at pagmamahal ng ating mga kababayan, upang ipanalo si VP Leni bilang Pangulo ng ating minamahal na bansa. Tulad ng kaniyang sinabi, lalaban tayo at magtatagumpay!” Bam said.
The announcement was made on Bam’s social media platforms after the Vice President announced that she would run for president in the 2022 elections.
On Thursday, Robredo filed her certificate of candidacy for president in the 2022 elections as an independent candidate.
Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on Thursday said that the poll body will accommodate COC filers beyond the 5:00 pm deadline on the last day of the filing period set Friday.
According to the poll body, the tentative list of candidates will be posted from October 29 at this website and at the offices where the certificates of candidacy were filed.
“Aspirants are encouraged to check their names to appear on the official ballots,” COMELEC spokesperson James Jimenez said.
