The Philippines was “no longer in the last place” for internet connectivity, according to DICT.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said that the Philippines was “no longer in the last place” for internet connectivity as both mobile and fixed broadband have improved over the years.

The Philippines was “no longer in the last place” for internet connectivity, according to DICT.

According to DICT Secretary Gringo Honasan, connectivity for fixed broadband had improved by as much as 700% while mobile broadband had improved by 300%.

He also said that they’re starting to convince telecommunication entities to strike a balance between income and public interest.

Pwedeng timplahin naman yung corporate objective at tsaka public interests component nito. Nakukumbinse na po natin sila at big kong ibalita sa inyo tumutulong na sila sa atin. Maybe with a little back-up, we might develop some traction here,” Honasan said.

Last June, the DICT reported that internet access speed in the country remained in the middle ground in terms of international levels despite getting slight bumps in both mobile and fixed platforms.

As per the DICT, mobile speed in the country was at 31.97Mbps while fixed broadband speed was recorded at 58.73Mbps as of May 2021.
