Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo seeks reelection in 2022 polls
GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO – The former president will run for congresswoman of Pampanga in the 2022 elections.
It was confirmed by her son on Saturday as he seeks a comeback at the House of Representatives.
Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo, the incumbent Pampanga 2nd District Representative said that the former chief executive will run again in next year’s poll.
It was from 2018 to 2019 when she became the country’s first female speaker of the House. At the time, she replaced Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.
Aside from that, she also served three consecutive terms as congresswoman of the second district of Pampanga from 2010 to 2013, 2013 to 2016, and 2016 to 2019.
Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was the second female president of the Republic of the Philippines. She served as the country’s chief executive from 2001 to 2010.
From 1992 to 1998, she served as a senator.
Meanwhile, among those who have shown interest in running for the 2022 elections in the senatorial slate are Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Former Vice President Jejomar Binay, Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez and Sorsogon Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero.
On the other hand, among those who recently announced their presidential bid are Senators Manny Pacquiao, Ping Lacson, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, and former senator Bongbong Marcos.
The filing of certificates of candidacies will be from October 1 up to October 8, 2021, while the campaign period for nationally-elected positions will kick off on February 8, 2022, until May 7, 2022.
The 2022 election is scheduled to be held on May 9.
