Family in Capiz Plans to File Case after Wrong Body Released to Them
FAMILY IN CAPIZ – A grieving family mourned the wrong body for three (3) days before they found out that it was actually not their family member.
In the Philippines, one of the things observed by most Filipino families when a family member dies is holding a wake. It is usually held in a memorial chapel or at the residence of the person who died.
The wake gives the family the last days to see and be with the body of their loved one who died. What usually happens is that family members who are abroad or in other places go home or pay respect to the dead. During the wake, prayer vigils and mass or services are also being held.
In most homes, the wake does not go below three (3) days. It is also usually during that time when preparations for the burial are being made.
However, a different scenario was experienced by a family in Capiz. They mourned a wrong body for three (3) days before they found out that the body released to them was not their family member’s body.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the family contacted a funeral home in Balasan, Iloilo for their services. The body was released to the family in Capiz and they mourned and cried for days over the death.
However, after a few days, the family noticed that the shape of the person’s face inside the coffin is different from the shape of the face of their family member. They asked the funeral homes about it.
According to the report, the funeral homes confirmed that they released the wrong body to the family in Capiz. The remains released was the body of a deceased from Lemery, Iloilo.
The funeral homes reportedly released the right body right away and the burial was held Thursday morning. The family is planning to sue the funeral homes over what happened.
