Google took account security fairly seriously and had been pushing 2-step verification for users over the past few years.

This week, Google had officially announced that YouTube creators will be required to use 2-step verification in order to access key functions starting later this year.

Twitter user @TeamYouTube tweeted that Google had recently confirmed its plans to require creators to use the stronger account protection as YouTube will require creators to use 2-step verification in order to access YouTube Studio and the requirement will start on November 1, 2021.

However, those creators who weren’t in the YouTube Partner Program can still be able to use YouTube and even upload their videos without 2-step verification.

Essentially, YouTube was making the stronger account protection a requirement for those who were making money through the video-sharing platform.

9to5Google reported that 2-step verification on Google accounts was available through users’ account settings and can take the form of codes sent through SMS, backup codes they printed out or saved elsewhere, Google Authenticator, or a notification sent to their devices via Google Prompt.

The last option was currently the default option of Google and worked on both Android and iOS devices by sending a notification that asked the user to confirm if they signed into their Google accounts with device and location data and occasionally included a code as well.
