Vaccination Database Delayed Due To “Slow-Paced” Forwarding Of Information From LGUs — DICT

The vaccination database was delayed due to the “slow-paced” forwarding of information from LGUs, according to DICT.

On Wednesday, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said that the vaccination database was delayed due to the “slow-paced” forwarding of information from local government units (LGUs).

The vaccination database was delayed due to the "slow-paced" forwarding of information from LGUs, according to DICT.

GMA News Online reported that a DICT official said that the “slow-paced” uploading of details of those already vaccinated against COVID-19 had been a problem for the DICT in coming up with a central database of all vaccinated individuals.

Lawyer Omar Sana of the Department of Information and Communications Technology said at a House committee on health briefing that systems had been in place but the local government units were “slow” in forwarding the data.

According to Sana, the main problem was the “slow-paced” uploading and forwarding by the local government units of those who have already been vaccinated against COVID-19.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology had already created the “Vaccine Information Management System (VIMS)” for the verification of an individual’s COVID-19 vaccination status.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles earlier called on local government units to hasten the encoding of COVID-19 vaccine recipients’ information in the verification database system created by the Department of Information and Communications Technology.

According to Nograles, it would be easier for local government units to verify the COVID-19 vaccination status of an individual as it only required a smartphone or a printed copy of an individual’s QR code once the central database was finished.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday said that the Philippines was set to release “digitized vaccine certificates” by the “end of August or beginning of September” as more countries developed COVID-19 vaccine passes in order to facilitate safe travel during the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje, the Department of Information and Communications Technology was in the process of developing the digital solution that will show the individual’s COVID-19 vaccination status.
