Pen Medina airs stance on use of face masks against COVID-19

PEN MEDINA – The character actor earned massive criticism after saying that face masks are not effective against COVID-19.

In a DZBB interview with Pen last Thursday, August 26, the veteran actor said he doesn’t believe wearing a face mask will help protect someone against the dreaded disease.

According to Pen Medina, he already made a study about it.

As expected, his claims earned negative comments.

Contrary to his stance, medical experts stressed that face masks can greatly help prevent the virus from entering the body through the mouth and nose.

According to PEP.ph, more than 19,000 cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the country per day.

With the rapid increase of coronavirus disease 2019 cases, leaders of different nations are doing their all in order to combat the spread of the deadly virus which started in Wuhan, China in 2019.

COVID-19 is characterized by flu-like symptoms such as fever, difficulty in breathing, cough, and other respiratory problems but a patient may also be positive for the disease even without showing any signs.

Among the safety protocols that everyone must observe are the following; social/physical distancing, using disinfectant from time to time if possible, and wearing masks as well as face shields especially in public places.

In order to combat the dreaded disease, COVID-19 vaccination was rolled out across the country.

Among those who were on the priority list of the COVID-19 vaccination program are medical frontliners, persons with comorbidities, and senior citizens.

Pfizer, Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Sputnik V are some of the vaccines available in the country.

Based on the data courtesy of Reuters, at least 31,433,450 doses of COVID vaccines have been administered in the Philippines so far.
