Update on Metro Manila Hospitals amid COVID-19 Fight
METRO MANILA HOSPITALS – Several hospitals in the National Capital Region (NCR) start to experience an increase in COVID-19 patients.
The Philippines is currently faced with a much tougher challenge following the detection of the Delta cases in the country. The said variant of concern hooked attention and sparked alarms for its higher transmissibility rate.
The Department of Health (DOH) has previously confirmed local transmissions of the Delta variant in the country. The said variant caused a spike in the coronavirus cases in several other nations.
In fact, in India, the country’s healthcare system collapsed amid the surge caused by the Delta variant. It was where the variant was first recorded.
The Philippines is currently exerting all the efforts it can to prevent the spread of the Delta variant. The national government continues to encourage the public to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
Currently, the whole Metro Manila is under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). The strictest quarantine measure’s imposed starting today until August 20, 2021.

Amid the ECQ, the individuals who are set to be vaccinated against COVID-19 will be allowed to go out provided that they would present proof of vaccination. Public transportation remains for their convenience.
Metro Manila hospitals were previously told to prepare for the possible spike in the COVID-19 cases in PH. The hospitals admitted their worries over what the Delta variant may bring.
Based on a recent report in ABS-CBN News, several Metro Manila hospitals now are facing an increase in the number of COVID-19 patients. Among the patients are children infected with coronavirus.
As of August 1, almost all young age groups got an increase in COVID-19 cases. Here is the tally of the increase from 0 to 19 years old:
- Age 0-4
- cases increased to 29,793
- Age 5-9
- cases increased to 30,982
- Age 10-14
- cases increased to 42,680
- Age 15-19
- cases increased to 64,943
In the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), there are several COVID-19 patients who are children. There is even a newborn baby who was supposedly brought there for a heart check-up but the baby tested positive for coronavirus.
